JERSEY CITY, N.J. - The Manhattan College softball team wrapped up its 2012 campaign with a doubleheader at Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) rival on Sunday.? And the Jaspers (11-36, 6-10 MAAC) ended the season with a pair of victories over the Peahens (5-44, 1-15 MAAC) at Jaroschak Field.? After notching a 7-2 win in game one, Manhattan extended its winning streak to a season-long three games with an 11-4 victory in the nightcap.

Game one was scoreless until the fourth, when Manhattan got on the board first.? Kate Bowen (Newtown, Conn.) moved all the way to third when her fly ball to left field was misplayed, and Jen Keller (Woodridge, N.Y.) later lifted a sacrifice fly to right to give Manhattan the lead.? The Jaspers then added two more in the fifth.? Amanda Paxson (Cedar Grove, N.J.) started the inning with an infield single, then Manhattan loaded the bases on singles by Amanda Berrios (Carteret, N.J.) and Jocelin Whitmore (La Habra, Calif.).? Amanda Babcock (Haverstraw, N.Y.) was up next, and she drew a walk to force in a run.? Bowen followed with a groundout to second, bringing Berrios across to make it 3-0.

Saint Peter's responded with a pair of runs in its half of the fifth to make it a one-run game, 3-2, before Manhattan broke things open with a four-spot in the top of the seventh.? Berrios and Whitmore both reached on infield singles to start the inning, and Bowen knocked in a run on a single to center.? Meghan McDevitt (Nutley, N.J.) added an RBI double before Keller drove in a pair with a base hit to center field.

Keller ended up 1-for-3 with three RBIs, while Bowen went 1-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored.? Eight different Jaspers had at least one hit, as Manhattan collected 11 base knocks as a team.? Whitmore, Berrios and McDevitt all had two-hit efforts in game one.? Kelsi Redding (Tucson, Ariz.) (5-13) pitched a complete game in the circle.? She allowed two runs on five hits while striking out six and walking three.

The Peahens were limited to five singles in the contest.? Nicole Schnecker went 1-for-2 with an RBI, while Krystine Rice and Michelle Tinajero both scored a run.? Shelby Beaver (2-20) went the distance in the circle for Saint Peter's, surrendering seven runs (six earned) on 11 hits.? She issued one walk and didn't strike out a batter.

In game two, Saint Peter's jumped out to the early lead on Nicole Olmedo's two-run homer in the bottom of the first.? However, Manhattan took control with a six-spot in the top of third.? After Babcock and Bowen walked, back-to-back RBI singles from McDevitt and Mickayla Romero (Las Vegas, Nev.) chased Saint Peter's starter Tori Feorenzo.? Erica Colon didn't fare much better though, as she gave up singles Paxson, Keller and Carla Velasquez (Miami, Fla.) that all drove in runs.? Another runner came across on a Saint Peter's error, giving Manhattan a 6-2 advantage.

Manhattan added an insurance tally in the fourth when Velasquez ripped a bases-loaded single to right field.? McDevitt then notched a two-run double in the top of the fifth, increasing the Jaspers' lead to 9-2.? However, Saint Peter's got one run back on Carolyn Griffin's RBI single in the bottom half of the inning.

Bowen led off the seventh with her sixth home run of the year.? After Romero stroked a one-out double, Kelly Murray (Leominster, Mass.) ripped an RBI double in her final collegiate at-bat, making it 11-3 in favor of the Jaspers.? Saint Peter's managed one run in the bottom of the seventh, but the Jaspers held on for the 11-4 victory and their first doubleheader sweep of the year.

The Jaspers' 11 runs and 14 hits in game two were both one off their season-high.? Playing in her final collegiate game, Velasquez went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, while Romero was 3-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored.? McDevitt had three RBIs as part of a 2-for-4 effort, and Keller added two hits.? Babcock and Bowen both scored twice.? Bowen (5-13) also earned her second consecutive complete-game victory in the circle.? She yielded four runs on eight hits, struck out five and walked one.

For Saint Peter's, Olmedo was 2-for-4 with a run scored and three driven in.? Alexis Gallagher crossed the plate three times and contributed a pair of hits.? Overall, the Peahens had eight hits in game one.? Saint Peter's used five different pitchers in the game, including Schnecker, who was listed as the starter, but moved to second base without throwing a pitch.? Feorenzo (2-5) took the loss after giving up seven runs (six earned) on six hits in four-plus innings.? She also struck out two and walked seven.? Colon gave up singles to all three batters she faced.? She was charged with two runs (one earned), while Griffin surrendered two runs and five hits in 2.1 innings of work.? Griffin also collected a strikeout.

Manhattan returns 12 letterwinners, including seven starters, next season.
