Scouting Report

Manhattan (19-10, 11-5 MAAC)

Manhattan plays its final weekend of the regular-season at home where the Jaspers have posted an 8-3 record this season. The Jaspers have won 10 of their last 13 contests with five of these victories coming at Draddy Gymnasium. Manhattan has won five of its last six contests in Riverdale.

The Jaspers have undergone the biggest improvement project in NCAA Division I with a 19-10 overall record, which is 13 more wins than last season. Manhattan has secured a top-4 seed at the 2012 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament currently standing 11-5 in the league.

Manhattan has been one of the premier defensive teams in the MAAC this season. The Jaspers entered the week ranked 33rd nationally in field goal percentage defense limiting opponents to 39.7% shooting. Manhattan also leads the MAAC in 3-point field goal defense (32.4%), rebounding (36.3 rpg), rebounding margin (+3.7), blocked shots (5.0 bpg) and defensive rebound percentage (.679).

Junior guard George Beamon has established himself as one of the top players in the region as he leads the Jaspers with a 17.9 scoring average and 5.5 rebounds per game. He is second on the MAAC's scoring chart, third in 3-point field goal percentage (41.0%), fifth in free-throw percentage (79.7%) and sixth in steals (1.5 spg). Beamon leads the league with 18.8 points per contest in MAAC games.

The Jaspers widespread attack, that has featured at least 10 players in all 29 games , has also relied on solid bench play from senior co-captain Kidani Brutus and sophomore Rhamel Brown. Brutus leads Manhattan with 55 3-point field goals, which are the ninth most threes by a player in the conference. He is averaging 8.1 points and 2.2 assists.

Brown is one of the top shot blockers in the country leading the MAAC with 71 and his 2.5 blocks per game are tied for 18th in NCAA Division I. Brown has averaged 8.1 points and nearly five rebounds per contest and he stands second in the MAAC with a 58.3% field goal percentage.

Freshman forward Emmy Andujar is the second leading scorer on the squad averaging 8.7 points. Andujar has filled the stat sheet this season with 5.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, while shooting 51.7% from the field.

Canisius (5-22, 1-15 MAAC)

Canisius has three players averaging double-figures as the Golden Griffs and are led by junior transfer Harold Washington who is tied for fourth in the MAAC averaging 16.5 points per game. Washington, a 6'1" 175-pound guard, has started 26 of 27 appearances and has a team-best 78.8% free-throw percentage. Washington leads the Golden Griffs with 77 assists.

Junior guard Alshwan Hymes has averaged 14.9 points staring all 27 games for the Golden Griffs. Hymes leads the MAAC averaging 2.8 three-pointers per game with 75 treys this season.

Gaby Belardo, a 6'2" junior point guard, has posted 11.3 points and 62 assists in 23 appearances. Belardo stands behind Hymes with 40 three-point field goals.

The Golden Griffs have lost 10 of their last 11 contests, but Canisius is coming off a 73-66 victory over UMBC on Saturday in Buffalo.    Canisius has yielded 74.6 points per game and the Golden Griffs are shooting a league low 40.1% from the field.
