Manhattan (14-7, 7-2 MAAC)
Manhattan is arguably the hottest team in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference as the Jaspers' five game win streak is the longest active in the league. The Jaspers are tied for first place in the MAAC with Iona and Loyola who are also carrying a 7-2 league record.
The Jaspers have put up some of the top defensive numbers in the MAAC this season. Manhattan entered the week ranked 25th in the nation with a 39.0% field goal defense. Manhattan also leads the league in 3-point field goal percentage defense (32.0%), blocks (4.9 bpg), rebounding (36.9 rpg), rebounding margin (+4.2) and defensive rebound percentage (68.9%). In nine MAAC games, the Jaspers have limited opponents to a league best 58.9 points per game.
Manhattan has the best team free-throw percentage in the MAAC shooting 73.5% at the line. The Jaspers, who boast a 14-7 overall record, are second in scoring margin (+5.7).
During their recent five game win streak the Jaspers have limited its opponents to 56.8 points per game and a 35.0% field goal percentage. Jaspers junior guard George Beamon has led Manhattan averaging 19.4 points per game during this hot stretch.
Beamon has a team-best 17.2 scoring average this season, which also ranks fourth in the MAAC. Beamon also stands second averaging 18.6 points in conference games. He has scored in double-figures in all 20 appearances this season and has posted three 20+ point performances in the Jaspers last four wins. Beamon is second in the MAAC with a 82.8% free-throw mark, he is fourth with a 43.2% three-point field goal percentage and sixth with 1.5 steals per game.
Rhamel Brown has been the Jaspers top big man as of late. Brown leads the MAAC with 55 blocks (2.6 bpg) and he is third in the conference with a 57.7% field goal percentage. Over the Jaspers five game win streak Brown is averaging a team-high 6.2 rebounds and 8.6 points per game.
The Jaspers are also receiving solid contributions from freshman forward Emmy Andujar. The two-time MAAC Rookie of the Week honoree is second on the team averaging 8.8 points per game. In 20 starts, Andujar has averaged 5.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists, while also shooting 50.4% from the field.
Manhattan point guard Michael Alvarado ranks fourth in the MAAC with 72 assists going along with an 8.0 scoring average. The Bronx native is averaging 4.4 assists per game during the Jaspers recent win streak.
Senior co-captain Kidani Brutus is tied with Beamon for a team-high 38 three-pointers. The Jaspers are third in the conference with 152 three-point field goals and a 35.7% three-point field goal percentage.
Canisius (4-15, 1-8 MAAC)
Canisius has three players averaging double-figures as the Golden Griffs are led by junior transfer Harold Washington who is third in the MAAC averaging 17.3 points per game. Washington, a 6'1" 175-pound guard, has started 18 of 19 appearances and has a team-best 80% free-throw percentage.
Junior guard Alshwan Hymes has averaged 14.6 points staring all 19 games for the Golden Griffs. Hymes has 51 three-point field goals and leads the MAAC averaging 2.7 per game.
Gaby Belardo, a 6'2" junior point guard, has posted 11.1 points and a team-high 49 assists in 16 appearances. Belardo stands behind Hymes with 25 three-point field goals.
The Golden Griffs have lost their last three games and six of the previous seven. Canisius has yielded 75.0 points per game and the Golden Griffs are shooting a league low 39.8%.
