Manhattan (4-4, 1-0 MAAC)
Manhattan head coach Steve Masiello has already produced four wins after implementing a new up-tempo style in his first year at the helm. The Jaspers have gone at least 10 players deep in each of their eight games this season.
Manhattan currently leads the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) in free-throw shooting and field goal percentage defense. The Jaspers are shooting 73.6% (148-201) at the line and have limited opponents to 40.9% shooting from the field.
Junior guard George Beamon is averaging a team-high 15.3 points per game and has been the MAAC's top free-throw shooter going 31-for-32 (96.9%) at the charity stripe. Beamon, a Preseason All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Second Team selection, has scored in double-figures in each of his seven appearances this season and 22 straight games dating back to last year.
Senior Roberto Colonette has emerged as the Jaspers top post player through eight games. The 6'7" 210-pound forward is averaging 8.4 points and 6.8 rebounds per contest. Colonette has posted double-figures in scoring the in three of the last five contests and five times this season.
Jaspers' sophomore Michael Alvarado has worked his way into the starting line for Manhattan's last four games. Alvarado is averaging 12.3 points, 3.5 assists, and he is 45% from the field and 57% from 3-point range as a starter. The 2011 All-MAAC Rookie Team honoree erupted for a season-high 22 points at Colorado State on Nov. 22.
Freshmen Emmy Andujar and Donovan Kates have been mainstays in the starting line up this season. Andujar is averaging 7.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and he is shooting 42.9% from the field starting all eight games. Kates has posted 4.9 points and 2.3 rebounds per contest.
Senior co-captain Kidani Brutus is the Jaspers top shooting threat from downtown. The 6'1" guard from the Bronx has knocked down a team-high 15 3-pointers and he is averaging 7.9 points per game.
Saint Peter's (2-4, 1-0 MAAC)
Defending Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference champion Saint Peter's has won two of its last three contests, including its 51-44 victory over Siena on Thursday in Jersey City. The Peacocks jumped on the Saints rolling out to a 15-1 advantage in the first five minutes and never looked back.
Junior guard Chris Prescott posted a game-high 16 points to lead three Peacocks in double-figures. Yvon Raymond added 15 points and nine rebounds, while Darius Conley contributed 10 points to the effort.
Prescott, a transfer from Saint Joseph's, is leading Saint Peter's in scoring this season with 14.8 points per game. He has knocked down a team-high 18 3-point field goals. Raymond, a 6'3" guard, is averaging 12.2 points and 7.2 rebounds. Conley, a 6'7" 235-pound junior forward, leads Saint Peter's in rebounding with 9.3 boards per game, going along with a 11.3 scoring average.
