Manhattan (3-4)
Manhattan head coach Steve Masiello has produced three wins after implementing a new up-tempo style in his first year at the helm. The Jaspers have gone at least 10 players deep in each of their seven games this season.
Two of Manhattan's three wins this season have come on the road. In five games outside of Riverdale, the Jaspers are averaging 70.6 points per game and are shooting 41% from the field.
Junior guard George Beamon is averaging a team-high 15.0 points per game and has been the Jaspers top free-throw shooter going 29-for-30 (96.7%) at the charity stripe. Beamon, a Preseason All-Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Second Team selection, has scored in double-figures in each of his six appearances this season and 21 straight games dating back to last year.
Senior Roberto Colonette has emerged as the Jaspers top post player through six games. The 6'7" 210-pound forward is averaging 9.0 points and 7.4 rebounds per contest. Colonette has posted double-figures in scoring the in three of the last four contests and five times this season.
Jaspers' sophomore Michael Alvarado has worked his way into the starting line for Manhattan's last three contests. Alvarado is averaging 10.7 points, 3.7 assists, and he is 43% from the field as a starter. The 2011 All-MAAC Rookie Team honoree erupted for a season-high 22 points at Colorado State on Nov. 22.
Freshmen Emmy Andujar and Donovan Kates are the only two Jaspers to start all seven games this season. Andujar is averaging 7.3 points, 6.0 rebounds and he is shooting 41.9% from the field. Kates has posted 5.3 points and 2.4 rebounds per contest.
Senior co-captain Kidani Brutus is the Jaspers top shooting threat from downtown. The 6'1" guard from the Bronx has knocked down a team-high 14 3-pointers and he is averaging 7.7 points per game.
Rider (1-6)
Rider is off to a 1-6 start and dropped its last two contests in the Hoop Group Classic falling to James Madison and La Salle at The Palestra. The Broncs return to Alumni Gymnasium for the first time since picking up its first victory of the season on Nov. 21 against Howard (74-72).
Jeff Jones, a senior transfer from Virginia, is leading the Broncs in scoring through seven games this season averaging 14.7 per game. The 6'4" guard has 15 3-point field goals and is leading the team with a 79.1% free-throw shooting percentage.
Sophomore forward Daniel Stewart has been the Broncs top big man seven games into the season. Stewart is averaging 14.6 points per game and leads the team with 7.7 rebounds. Stewart, the 2010-2011 MAAC Rookie of the Year, is also shooting a team-high 59.3% from the field.
Broncs' sophomore guard Anthony Miles is also averaging double-figures (12.7) in seven starts this season. Miles is shooting a hot 51.5% (17-33) from 3-point territory.
