RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Going in to this weekend, Manhattan Men's swimming faced three opponents in as many days, at two separate venues. They came out on top in every meet, finishing a perfect weekend off with an 88-82 win over NJIT on the road on Sunday.
The score was not as evident as how dominant the Jaspers (10-3) really were against the Highlanders as Manhattan had individual winners in five separate events taking an 88-42 lead after seven events and cementing a victory. The swimmers then raced as exhibition events the rest of the way against NJIT.
Manhattan took 15 of 17 points in the first event, the 200 medley relay, when the team of Cullen Balcanoff, Dennis Daly, PJ Sweeney and Mickey Ruddy finished ahead of the squad comprised of Scott Isaacs, Michael Mackay RJ Meany and Michael Scire.
Robert Varieur, who was a double-winner in the two other meets this weekend, finished first in the 200 yard freestyle, his only true event of the day. Sweeney added another win to his impressive weekend finishing first in the 100 butterfly. The other winner for Manhattan included Balcanoff taking the 200 yard individual medley.
Winners of four meets in a row, Manhattan will have the next two weeks off for the Thanksgiving break before returning to action on Fri., Dec. 9 in Jersey City, N.J. when they take on Saint Peter's and Montclair State.
