RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Senior Bridget Latino won all three events in which she competed (two individual) racking up 29 points and breaking her own school record in the 1000 yard freestyle as the Manhattan Women's swim team notched their second consecutive victory 102-95 over St. Francis (NY) on Saturday.
Latino swam the third leg of the opening event (200 yard medley relay) to help the Jasper team of Kerry Schuermann, Mary Kate O'Leary, and Vanessa L'Heureux finish in 2:00.53 seconds, a full 12 seconds faster than St. Francis. The senior then used that momentum to go out and break her own Manhattan record in the very next event, the 1000 yard freestyle. Latino finished the event in 11:08.91 seconds, breaking the old mark of 11:10.17 that she set last season on the road against the Terriers.
While St. Francis continued to be competitive and push the Jaspers, their depth proved to be too much as they were able to find multiple point getters in each event. L'Heureux was able to notch another victory on the day in the 50 yard freestyle to give her another double-victory performance.
Latino then earned her third victory of the afternoon in the 100 yard butterfly just ahead of teammate Melanie Team to give Manhattan a total of 13 points in the event. Schuermann, who took second in the 200 Individual Medley by 0.46 seconds, finished first in the 100 backstroke. The other winner for the Jaspers was Nadine Maher as she barely edged out Kim Geissler in the 100 yard freestyle.
Manhattan (6-8) is off for the Thanksgiving break but will return to action on Fri. Dec. 9 as they travel to Jersey City, N.J. to take on Saint Peter's and Montclair State.
