RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan Women's Swimming team opened their 2011-12 home swimming schedule by splitting their two meets at Riverdale Country Day School. On Friday the team defeated local opponent Mount Saint Vincent's 106-63 but fell on Saturday to Pace University 88-116.
In Friday's meet Molly Russell was instrumental in helping capture a Jasper win. After helping the team of Russell, Lindsie Holmes, Nadine Maher and Kim Geissler place first in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a low split of 28.21 (team time of 1:53.85) she went on to win the individual 200 free with a time of 2:11.07 as well as the 400 yard free relay along with Maher, Emily Kearns and Melanie Tam (4:13.59). Bridget Latino also notched multiple victories winning the 200 medley relay, 100 free, and 50 fly.
On Saturday, the Jaspers were not so lucky in the pool falling to Pace University for their first meet loss of the season. Latino however was able to place first in the 200 yard freestyle while Vanessa L'Heureux won the 200 individual medley event.
The Jaspers are now 2-1 on the season which continues this weekend at Mount St. Mary's in Emmitsburg, Md. where they will compete with VMI, NJIT, and McDaniel in a two day event beginning on Fri. Oct. 28.
