Scouting Report

Manhattan (2-15, 0-6 MAAC)

Manhattan has been on a 15 game downswing since earning season opening victories over NJIT and Penn. The Jaspers are coming off a 72-51 setback to Canisius on Saturday at Draddy Gymnasium.

The Jaspers have been led in scoring eight times this season by sophomore guard George Beamon. The 6'4" native of Roslyn, N.Y. is ranked fifth in the MAAC averaging 15.3 points per game. Beamon has five 20-point performances this season and has recorded double-digit scoring efforts in 14 of his 16 appearances. He has also been one of the Jaspers top rebounders as he has pulled down 6.9 rebounds per game, a figure which ranks seventh in the MAAC.

Manhattan has received solid production up front from graduate student Demetrius Jemison and freshman Rhamel Brown. Jemison, a transfer from  Alabama, has averaged 10.3 points and 8.3 rebounds in eight starts since receiving a graduate transfer waiver from the NCAA on Dec. 10. He has four double-digit rebounding performances and two double-doubles this season.

Brown has emerged as one of the top shot blockers in the MAAC. The 6'6" Brooklyn native leads the conference with 40 blocks. Brown is third in the league averaging 8.6 rebounds per contest, going along with a 7.5 scoring average. He also leads the MAAC with 4.5 rebounds per game on the offensive glass.

The Manhattan backcourt primarily consists of freshman point guard Michael Alvarado and shooting guard Kidani Brutus. Alvarado returned to the starting line up on Saturday against Canisius after missing the previous three games with an injury. Alvarado is second on the team averaging 11.6 points and he is eighth in the MAAC with 3.5 assists per game. Alvarado has been the Jaspers top free-throw shooter as he ranks seventh in the conference shooting 80.3% at the line.

Brutus is the Jaspers top threat from downtown. He has recorded a team-high 30 3-pointers and is shooting 35.3% from beyond the arc. Brutus has six double-digit scoring efforts this season and is averaging 9.2 points per game.

Sophomore guard Mohamed Koita has been acclimating himself to the hardwood since missing the first 11 games rehabbing from injuries. He has started five of six appearances, recording 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Niagara (4-14, 1-5 MAAC)

Niagara has lost seven of their last eight contests and hold a 1-5 mark in the MAAC. The Purple Eagles are coming off a 77-57 loss at Saint Peter's on Saturday.

Senior guard Anthony Nelson has anchored the Purple Eagles' scoring attack averaging 16.3 points per game with 24 3-pointers. Nelson is third in the MAAC in scoring and sixth with a team-high 62 assists.

Junior forward Kashief Edwards has been Niagara's top rebounder averaging 6.4 boards per contest. The 6'6" 195-pound Philadelphia native leads the team with 23 blocks and is averaging 12.7 points. He also harbors the Purple Eagles top field goal percentage this season with a 43.2% mark.

Freshman guard Marvin Jordan has been Niagara's top newcomer. Jordan posted 10.0 points per contest and 51 assists, starting 17 of 18 appearances. He leads the Purple Eagles with 37 3-point field goals.
