, N.Y. - The Manhattan women's soccer team was bombarded with four goals in the first half as Navy (3-4-1) took a 5-0 victory on Sunday in Annapolis, Md. The loss comes two days after the Lady Jaspers earned a double overtime tie with Navy Invitational champion Towson. Senior captain Kara Bucci and junior midfielder Claire Reinhard represented Manhattan (1-3-1) on the All-Tournament Team.

The Lady Jaspers got off to a sluggish start and could not recover. In the 15th minute, senior forward Carissa Youker capitalized on a corner kick for her third goal of the year. Less than five minutes later, Navy midfielder Anastasia Abid finished on a feed from sophomore midfielder Brittany Fruin as she sent a header into the right side of the net.

The Mids tallied two more goals before intermission to take a 4-0 advantage into the break. Freshman Ashlynn Soellner posted her third goal of the season in the 31st minute when she finished with a header on a corner kick served by junior back Kate Herren. Then in the 43rd minute, freshman Sam Newhaller scored on a double assisted goal set up by KD Woolard and Kate Herren.

Lady Jaspers' sophomore goalkeeper Kara Davis played the first half and recorded one save in her fourth start of the season. Senior goalie Alyssa Bachowski patrolled the pipes for Manhattan in the second half.

Navy tallied its fifth goal of the match in the 79th minute when freshman forward Paloma Perez intercepted a redirected pass to Bachowski and sent it into the open net.

Despite the lopsided score, Manhattan matched Navy with 11 shots in the contest. The Mids came up with six saves in a shutout by committee effort. Sophomore Hannah Legler played the first 45 minutes and recorded two saves. Freshman Alexes Lopez-Shaw managed two saves over the next 32 minutes and senior Traci Willemse completed with shutout with one save in the final 13 minutes of action.

Manhattan returns to action on Friday when the Lady Jaspers travel to Albany. Kick off is slated for 4 p.m.
