RIVERDALE, N.Y. -
Sophomore goalkeeper Kara Davis recorded her first shutout of the season and sixth of her career as the Manhattan women's soccer team battled through 110 minutes to earn a scoreless draw with Towson (2-2-2) on Friday in the first contest of the Navy Invitational. With the tie, Manhattan (1-2-1) ends its two game skid as it looks forward to its second match in Annapolis, Md. against tournament host Navy on Sunday at 3 p.m.

The Lady Jaspers competed with the Tigers through an even opening half of the first meeting between the two women's soccer programs. Manhattan put pressure on Towson junior goalkeeper Jocelyn Papciak forcing her to come up with three saves on five shots in the first half.

Towson mounted a feverish attack in the second half as the Tigers bombarded Manhattan with 13 of their game-high 20 shots over the 45 minute span. Davis came up with four of her five saves in the second stanza to help force overtime. Papciak matched Davis by also recording five saves in the contest.

In extra time, Manhattan put both of its shot attempts for the victory on goal, but Papciak was there to make both saves. Freshman forward Martine Diamond sent one at the net in the 96th minute, and then senior Caroline Morse, the Lady Jaspers' leading scorer, made one last attempt at the goal in the 102nd minute.

The Lady Jaspers' showdown on Sunday with Navy will also mark the inaugural meeting between the two programs. The Mids are 2-3-1 this season entering Friday's match with Charleston Southern (3-2-0).
