Scouting Report

Manhattan (2-8)

Manhattan wraps up its five game series within the metropolitan area against Hofstra. The Jaspers have three players ranked in the top-8 of the MAAC in minutes played, with each averaging 34+ minutes per game, as a result of an injury plagued roster.

Manhattan also has three players averaging double-figures, including a team-high 13.5 points per game from George Beamon, a scoring average which also ranks eighth in the conference. The 6'4" swingman from Roslyn, N.Y. also ranks fourth in the MAAC averaging 7.8 rebounds per contest.

Manhattan has received 12.9 points and 3.6 assists per game from freshman point guard Michael Alvarado. Alvarado has started all 10 games for the Jaspers this season and has the fourth best free-throw shooting percentage in the conference shooting 86.4% at the charity stripe. Alvarado is coming off a solid week, averaging 16.0 points and 6.5 assists in the Jaspers' last two contests.

Graduate transfer Demetrius Jemison has added a significant presence to the Manhattan front line with his 6'8" 240-pound frame. Jemison, who  recently became eligible after satisfying the requirements of an NCAA graduate transfer waiver, posted 13 points on 5-for-11 shooting and seven rebounds in 29 minutes of his Manhattan debut. After playing his first three years at Alabama, Jemison offers experience to a youthful Jaspers front court, which also features freshman Rhamel Brown. Brown, a 6'6" 215-pound forward, leads the MAAC averaging 2.1 blocks per contest and he ranks third in the league with 8.2 rebounds per contest.

Hofstra (5-4)

Under the direction of first year head coach Mo Cassara, the Pride are led again by 2010 Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Year Charles Jenkins. Jenkins is fifth in all of NCAA Division I averaging 25.3 points per contest. The 6'3" senior guard is shooting a sweltering 58.8% from the field and 47.5% from 3-point territory. Jenkins is an 80.3% free-throw shooter and he is just five points shy of reaching the 2,000 career point plateau.

Hofstra has won four of its last five games, but is coming off a 63-59 loss at home to Florida Atlantic on Dec. 11. The Pride carry a 2-0 road record into Draddy Gymnasium.

Junior guard Mike Moore is averaging 13.1 points and 5.6 rebounds in nine starts this season. Hofstra is also getting 7.2 points and a team-high 7.1 rebounds from 6'7" sophomore forward David Imes.

Hofstra's last victory was on Dec. 8, when it knocked off Binghamton 89-85 on the road in overtime. Jenkins erupted for a career-high 40 points with 33 coming after halftime, including the final 15 points of regulation.
