RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Manhattan women's soccer team will face its toughest test of the 2010 campaign when the Lady Jaspers host Siena (8-0-0) on Friday to open MAAC play. The Saints visit Gaelic Park with an unblemished record and stand as the last remaining undefeated and untied team in NCAA Division I. The Lady Jaspers may have their hands full, but they have confidence in their superb play at home this season as Manhattan holds a 2-1 ledger in Riverdale.
Manhattan (2-6-1) picked up its second home victory last Friday defeating Bryant 2-0 before a lively Jasper crowd. Senior forward Caroline Morse scored both times for the Lady Jaspers moving into the top-5 in program history for career goals. Sophomore goalkeeper Kara Davis posted her second shutout of the season against the Bulldogs, thanks in part to the tremendous backline support led by senior co-captain Kara Bucci.
Lady Jaspers' first year head coach Brendan Lawler emphasized the importance good fan support, in addition to solid play during this big conference weekend. "We are going to need all the help we can get," explained Lawler. "Our fans have been great the past three games. Our parents are always there for us leading the way in the stands and we love them for that."
The Lady Jaspers complete their four game home stand on Sunday against Marist. Kick off with the Red Foxes is slated for 10 a.m.
