Hickey, Gutenberger Power Women's Lacrosse to 19-4 Win Over Long Island University

Riverdale, N.Y. -- Powered by five goals from Caralyn Hickey and four by freshman Chissy Gutenberger, the Manhattan College women's lacrosse team captured their consecutive win of the season, topping Long Island University 19-4 Sunday afternoon at Gaelic Park. Hickey already has a total of 18 goals on the young season for the Lady Jaspers, now 3-1.
Manhattan sophomores Julia Lavelle and Phelicia VanOverbeke both added hat-tricks, while Helen Kerrisk had two goals. Elizabeth Dugan and BrieAnn Spatarella chipped in with one goal each. Gutenberger and Cristina Tarulli picked up two assists, while Spatarella and VanOverbeke had one each.
Dugan and Kerrisk, as well as goalkeeper Alison Brown, were the ground ball leaders for the Lady Jaspers. Brown had eight, while Kerrisk and Dugan each had four. Dugan had three caused turnovers and Kerrisk had two.
The Lady Jaspers burst out to a 3-0 lead in the first 10 minutes and never looked back. LIU scored its first goal at 20:37, but then Manhattan went on a 4-0 run to take the score to 7-1 at 15:22. The two teams then traded goals to make the score 9-3 at halftime. The game was then clinched when the Lady Jaspers ran off a 10-0 in the first 15 minutes of the second half.
Manhattan outshort the Blackbirds 36-22. In goal, Manhattan's Brown made 14 saves.
The Lady Jaspers look to run their winning streak to four games when they take on Wagner College Tuesday at 4 p.m. at Gaelic Park.
