Riverdale, N.Y. --  The Manhattan College women's lacrosse team scored first in its season opener against Big East opponent University of Louisville, but then found itself on the short end of an 7-0 run by the Cardinals that proved too much to overcome as the Lady Jaspers lost the match 11-5.

Caralyn Hickey tallied two goals for the Lady Jaspers, and Tara Convery, Chrissy Gutenberger and Julia Lavelle chipped in with one goal each.  Convery also had one assist and four turnovers, while teammate Keri Morrison had three caused turnovers and five ground balls.  For Louisville, Liz Lovejoy, Emily Dashiell and Lianne Bobal each had hat tricks to lead the Cardinals.

Manhattan got on the scoreboard first at the 28:13 mark when Hickey scored off a Convery assist.  But then Louisville rattled off six straight goals to take a 6-1 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Six minutes into the second half, the Cardinals made it a 7-0 run before Manhattan's Hickey scored to make the score 7-2 at the 24 minute mark.  Louisville scored about seven minutes later, but then Manhattan went on a 3-0 run in the next five minutes to close the score to 8-5.  But a 3-0 run in the game's final five minutes clinched the game for Louisville.

Manhattan goalkeeper Allison Brown had nine saves on the day, while Louisville keeper Jen Heup had seven saves.  Lousivlle outshot the Lady Jaspers 27-17.

The Lady Jaspers will now continue what will be a 10 game homestand next Sunday when it hosts LeMoyne College at noon at Gaelic Park.
