RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Junior transfer Rico Pickett buried five 3-pointers and finished with 21 points on 7-for 13 shooting to lead the Green team to a 62-45 victory over the White team in the annual Manhattan men's basketball intrasquad scrimmage on Wednesday. Freshman George Beamon added 18 points and sophomore Djibril Coulibaly posted 12 in the winning effort. Preseason All-MAAC selection Darryl Crawford led the White team with 18 points, while Laurence Jolicoeur chipped in 10 and Brandon Adams had seven.
The Green team over came an initial 5-0 deficit by rallying for a 17-4 run, which featured four 3-pointers by Pickett, and Green would lead the rest of the way. Coulibaly slammed a put back dunk with 38 seconds remaining in the half to give the Green team a 31-23 edge at the break. Coulibaly shot a perfect 4-for-4 from the field in the first stanza and finished 6-for-8 in the contest.
Green matched its first half total in the second period with 10 of its 31 points coming from Beamon. The high flying swingman from Roslyn went 7-for-11 from the field and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. The Green team opened a 15 point lead in the second, its largest advantage.
Crawford, the Jaspers' leading scorer in 2008-09, warmed up in the second half scoring 14 points on 6-for-9 shooting. Teammate Andrew Gabriel was the high-rebounder in the contest with nine boards. He added four points, as did 6-11 freshman Kevin Laue who corralled five rebounds. Junior guard Nick Walsh added three treys for the White team.
The Green squad shot 57% from the field and 46% from 3-point range. White shot 46% and sank just 3-of-12 3-point attempts.
The Jaspers continue their preseason slate on Saturday when they host Kean University in an exhibition at Draddy Gymnasium. Tip off is slated for 4 p.m.
