Central Connecticut State Slips Past Manhattan

Box Score

RIVERDALE, N.Y. ? The Jaspers peppered Central Connecticut State (4-1-1) with eight shots in the second half, but couldn't tally the equalizer as the Manhattan men's soccer team (1-5) fell 1-0 this evening at Gaelic Park. Blue Devil's senior midfielder Yan Klukowski delivered the game winning goal in the 30th minute to lead Central Connecticut State, a 2007 NCAA Final Eight participant, past Manhattan in a physical match up.

Sophomore Connor Smith set up the game winning goal with 29:34 on the clock when he served a pass to the left side of the box in the direction of Klukowski. Klukowski tracked down the ball, and slipped his shot past Jaspers' goalkeeper John Ciano.

Ciano made two saves over 90 minutes between the pipes.

The Jaspers offense erupted in the second half, and created havoc for the Central Connecticut backs. Although, Manhattan slightly missed numerous opportunities to even the score.

In the 49th minute, Jaspers' sophomore forward Thomas Bandov intercepted a pass in the offensive end, broke free of the defense and pushed a shot just wide of the goal. Then in the 58th minute, junior Neal Siena broke loose on the right side, served a beautiful pass to the cutting Fernando Londono who also placed it wide.

Central Connecticut State managed to hold off the rest of Jaspers' offensive pressure to earn the win. Manhattan outshot the Blue Devils 15-11.

Manhattan returns to action on Wednesday when the squad travels to Brooklyn for a meeting with Long Island University. The Jaspers are back home on Saturday to square off with Howard University.
