Sophomore Helen Kerrisk chipped in with four goals and freshman Phelicia VanOverbeke had a hat trick.
“It was an impressive 10 point effort by Psillos,” said Jim Drivas, who saw his team's record improve to 5-1 on the season. “She was our leader today and her teammates also chipped in both offensively and defensively.”
Other Lady Jasper goals came from freshman Tara Convery and sophomore Caralyn Hickey, each of whom had two goals, and senior Jillian McGowan and and freshman Julia Lavelle who had one goal each. In addition to Psillos' three assists, assists came from senior Emilia Ward (3), Convery (1) and McGowan (1).
The Lady Jaspers started the game slowly, with LIU taking an early lead as Blackbird Annie Kalata tallied a pair of goals sandwiched around a Manhattan goal to stake LIU a 2-1 lead at the 23:07 mark. Manhattan responded with a goal from freshman Tara Convery to spark a 4-0 run, capped by two goals from Psillos to make it 5-2 with 14:23 left in the first period.
LIU (2-8) got a goal back when Sara LaNoir scored on an unassisted effort, but Manhattan's Van Overbeke tallied consecutive goals to push the lead to 7-3. LIU's sophomore Christie Wienckowski and LaNoir cut LIU's deficit in half with back-to-back goals to make it 7-5 with 5:46 to play in the period. That was as close as LIU could get, however, as Manhattan closed the period with four unanswered goals.
Manhattan (5-1) continued to click offensively in the second half as it opened with two goals before an LIU goal at the 25:56 mark to make it 13-6. The Jaspers responded with a decisive 6-0 run to put the game out of reach.
