Riverdale, N.Y. ? The Manhattan College men's soccer team was downed by nationally-ranked Loyola College of Maryland 3-0 in a game played at Loyola in Baltimore. Loyola, ranked 7th in the country by the NSCAA, got all three of its goals from Jamie Darvill.
Loyola broke the game open early, getting a Darvill penalty kick in the 6th minute for his 12th goal of the season. Less than five minutes later, he scored his 13th of the season off an assist from Steven Bantock.
The Jaspers held off the Greyhounds for the rest of the first half, but Darvill struck again for his 14th tally of the season six minutes into the second half off a Mike Deasel pass to clinch the victory for Loyola, which is now 16-0-1 overall and 8-0 in the MAAC. Manhattan is now 3-13-1 overall and 1-5-1 in MAAC play.
Loyola outshot Manhattan 11-7 on the day. Jasper goalkeeper John Ciano recorded three saves.
The Jaspers close out their season next weekend when they take on Niagara Friday evening at 7 p.m. and take on Canisius on Senior Day at 10 a.m. Both games will be played at Gaelic Park.
