Riverdale, N.Y.(September 7). ? Manhattan volleyball fell in five games to opponent Cal State Northridge. This was the first game of the Sacramento State Invitational.
The Lady Jaspers came out strong in their opening game of the Sacramento State Invitational as they took the first two games of the match 30-28 and 30-28. Cal State came back to tie the match up at two games a piece and edged out Manhattan in the fifth game 15-9.
In the first game, the Lady Jaspers found themselves in a 7 point deficit early as they were trailing 11-5. The Lady J's fought back and erased the deficit and tied the game, 21-21. The scores went back and forth but in the end, Manhattan pulled away with the win, 30-28. The second game showed to be a bit different as the Lady J's come out strongly and built up a 4 point lead, 9-5. Northridge battled back and the game was kept close. Towards the end, Manhattan found themselves down by two points, but scored five of the last six points to take the second game 30-28. The Lady Jaspers then dropped the next two games, as Cal State won the fifth and deciding game to win the match, 3-2.
The Manhattan offense was led by freshman Jaci Rahey's game high 22 kills. Fellow freshman Diane Strutner also added 21 kills and 11 digs, respectively. Alyssa Getzel contributed a game high 53 assists and Manhattan hit .261 as a team.
Manhattan will close out the Sacramento State Invitational as they will play two games, Sacramento State University tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. and Oregon State University at 8:00 p.m. tomorrow.
