CIPRIANO NETS GOAL AS MEN'S SOCCER TOPS PHILADELPHIA UNIVERSITY 1-0

Riverdale, N.Y. (September 15, 2007) -- The Manhattan College men's soccer team got a first half goal from senior midfielder Daniel Cipriano and held on with a strong defense in the second half to win their first game of the season 1-0 over Philadelphia University at Gaelic Park.  Jasper goalkeeper John Ciano recorded his first shutout of the season.

Cipriano scored his goal at 8:42 of the first half, taking a short pass from junior midfielder Josh Swett and looping the ball over the outstretched hand of Philadelphia goalkeeper Ezra Cassell.  Just before the end of the first half, Cipriano had another strong shot hit the post.

The Jaspers, now 1-4 on the season, outshot Philadelphia  16-6.  Jasper goalkeeper Ciano recorded only two saves and was fronted by a strong defense of junior Kyle Lauchmen, junior Daniel Yedowitz, freshman Josh Renner and junior Dan Shemanski.

“We played very well during many spots in the game, and then held on at the end for the well-deserved win,” said Manhattan Coach Michael Swanwick.  “I was also pleased to see us get off 16 shots, after not shooting nearly enough in our first four games.”

The Jaspers next game is Friday, September 21 at 4 p.m. vs. VMI at Gaelic Park.
