Lake Buena Vista, Fla. (April 30, 2007)?Nicholas LaBanca continued his impressive finish to 2007 by shooting three rounds in the 70s, including a 74 in round three at the MAAC Championships. Held at the par-72, 6,852 yard Magnolia Golf Course in Walt Disney World, LaBanca's three day total of 228 (76-78-74, +12) in the season finale tied him for 12th overall and made him Manhattan's low medalist.
With his performance at the MAAC's, LaBanca finished the season by shooting six consecutive rounds in the 70s. Freshman Brian Burns had a strong showing in his first postseason competition, shooting a 240 for the three days (82-80-78, +24). Junior Sean Oroho was Manhattan's next best performer, shooting a combined 245 and finishing tied for 34th (84-83-78, +29). Senior George Calvi, in his final competition for the Jaspers, was not far behind finishing in a tie for 36th with a three day total of 246 (83-78-85, +30). Other finishers for the Jaspers were juniors James Marchewka (90-81-88, T-42) and Scott Burton (92-94-84, 44th).
As a team, the Jaspers finished ninth with a three day total of 974 (+110). Siena College won the event with an 895 (+31), while Loyola came in second with a 903 (+39). Siena's Brian Bigley and Loyola's Will Shriver were the low individual medalists, shooting a two-under par 214 for the three rounds.
The tournament marks the end to Manhattan's 2006-07 season. The Jaspers' best finish of the spring was a third place finish at last week's Peacock Invitational, while the Jaspers won the Yeshiva University Invitational in the fall, the second team championship in the program's history.
