Neshanic Station, N.J. (April 24, 2007)?Led by Nicholas LaBanca and Brian Burns, the golf team produced its best results of the spring season with a third place finish at the Peacock Invitational. LaBanca shot a five-over par 77 and finished in a tie for fifth at the 7,069 yard, par-72 Neshanic Valley Golf Course. Burns was not far behind his teammate, carding a round of 79 (+7) and finishing tied for tenth.
With the MAAC Championships just days away, LaBanca is playing his best golf of the season, posting his third straight round in the 70s after shooting two rounds of 73 at the Mount St. Mary's Invitational. LaBanca started his round out hot, shooting a 35 on the front nine, which tied him with St. Peter's Chris Merce for the lowest nine hole total. The freshman stumbled a bit on the back nine, shooting a 42, but was still able to finish in the top five.
As a team, the Jaspers shot 319 (+31), eight shots behind Rider University who won the event with a 311 (+23) combined score. La Salle University finished in second with a score of 314 (+26). Rider's Tyler Brewington took home medalist honors with a one-under par 71.
Other finishers for Manhattan were George Calvi, who finished tied for 12th with a round of 80 (+8), Sean Oroho (83, T-21), and Adam Minbiole (83, T-21).
With their regular season in the books, the Jaspers head down to Florida to compete in the MAAC Championships, beginning this Friday at Disney's Magnolia Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
