Littlestown, Pa. (April 23, 2007)?With the MAAC Championships in Orlando fast approaching, the Jaspers picked a good time to shoot its lowest non-MAAC Championship round since 2004. The five Jasper linksmen, Nicholas LaBanca, Brian Burns, James Marchewka, Scott Burton, and Steven Rentz combined to shoot a 315 in round two of the Mount St. Mary's Spring Invitational. Individually, LaBanca carded rounds of 73 in the final two rounds of the tournament to finish in a tie for 34th.
After a slow start in round one at the 7027 yard, par-72 Quail Vallet Golf Course, the Jaspers shaved more than 30 shots of their total in round two. LaBanca led the turnaround for the Jaspers; after struggling with an 86 in round one, the freshman shot rounds of 73 in the final two rounds of the tournament, for a 54-hole total of 232(+16). LaBanca's 73 was also among the top five lowest scores of the entire tournament.
Burns was Manhattan's next best finisher for the Jaspers, finishing in a tie for 72nd with a 54-hole total of 250 (84-77-89). Rounding out the scores for Manhattan were Marchewka (91-84-80, 79th), Burton (89-81-86, T-80), and Rentz (87-86-85, 82nd).
