MARCHEWKA AND CALVI FINISH STRONG AS GOLF TEAM WRAPS UP SOUTHERN TRIP

Myrtle Beach, S.C. (March 17, 2007)?Junior James Marchewka carded rounds of 83 and 81 at the Fairfield Spring Invitational, a two-day event hosted by Fairfield University on March 16 and 17 at the par 72 Crown Park Golf Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Marchewka's two day total of 164 made him Manhattan's low medalist for the tournament and placed him in a tie for 30th overall.

 

Marchewka's teammate, senior George Calvi, had two similarly consistent rounds of 83 and 82 for a two-day total of 165, placing him in a tie for 35th. Other finishers for Manhattan were Nicholas LaBanca (82-85-167, T-43), Adam Minbiole (89-87-176, T-61), Scott Burton (88-89-177, T-66), Sean Oroho (88-94-182, T-71), and Chris Vieau (91-98-189, T-75). Siena's Bryan Bigley ran away with the event, shooting rounds of 72 and 75 for a three-over par 147, seven shots ahead of the field.

 

As a team, the Jaspers placed 13th with a two-day team score of 673. Siena won the team title with a two-day score of 625 (+49).

 

At the 3rd Annual Lonnie Barton Invitational, a two day tournament held on March 12 and 13 in Bluffton, S.C. the Jaspers placed 12th with a two-day total of 705. Oroho was Manhattan's low medalist for the event, carding rounds of 91 and 83 for a two-day total of 174, placing 58th. Also placing for the Jaspers were LaBanca (92-83-175, 59th), Calvi (87-91-178, T-60), and Burton (86-96-182, 62nd). In addition, Vieau (89-90-179) and Minbiole (98-100-198) competed for Manhattan. Long Island University's Patrick Kelly won individual honors, firing rounds of 73 and 72 for a one-over par 145, two shots ahead of his closest competitors. Indiana University of Pennsylvania won the team event with a two-day total of 605 (+29), six shots ahead of Missouri Southern State.

 

The Jaspers return to the links on April 3 for a Quad match at Spring Country Club in West Orange, N.J. Tee-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
