COLUMBIA EDGES MEN'S SOCCER, 1-0

New York, N.Y. (September 17, 2006)- A goal in the 61st minute propelled Columbia to a 1-0 win over Manhattan this afternoon at Columbia Soccer Stadium. The Jaspers fall to 2-6-0 on the season, while the Lions improve to 4-3-0.

The two sides played to a scoreless opening half, though Columbia held the advantage in shots, taking six to Manhattan's one.

The Jaspers got the first scoring opportunity of the second half, but Adam Kiley's shot was saved by Lions' goalkeeper Michael Testa. Columbia finally solved Manhattan keeper John Ciano at the 60:04 mark. Chris Wales crossed the ball to John Mulhern, who slid a pass to Tom Davison, who put the ball to the back of the net.

Ciano made three saves in net for Manhattan, while Testa recorded two saves on the way to the clean sheet.

Manhattan returns to action on Saturday, September 23, when the Jaspers travel across the Bronx to take on boro-rival Fordham at 7:00 p.m. at Jack Coffey Field.
