Philadelphia, Pa. (September 15, 2006)--
Jill Beauchamp scored her first collegiate goal, and Chrissy Reina scored for the fifth time this season as Manhattan came from behind to defeat Temple 2-1 Friday night, improving to 6-0-0 on the season.
The Lady Jaspers were scored on for the first time this season, ending their school record for consecutive games without allowing a goal, which previously stood at four. In all, Manhattan went more than 487 minutes, five plus games without allowing a goal. But thanks to Beauchamp and Reina, Manhattan extended the program record for consecutive wins to six.
Temple's Kelly Lare ended the impressive streak in the 27th minute. After Manhattan turned the ball over in the Owls' box, Kersha Walker gained possession and raced downfield, feeding a cross to Lare who beat goalie
Alicia DeFino.
Trailing for the first time this season, the Lady Jaspers didn't seem to be fazed having to play from behind and answered back quickly. After being awarded a corner kick in the 40th minute,
Amanda Fischer picked up her sixth assist of the season, playing a ball into the box that was put home by Beauchamp, leveling the score just before halftime.
In the second half, Reina knocked in the go-ahead goal off assists from
Courtney McMahon and
Katie Kuntz. Reina's goal was her fourth in the last three games. McMahon's sixth assist of the season tied her for the team lead with Fischer, who had temporarily taken the team lead in the first half.
Despite allowing the goal, Manhattan's defense and goalkeeping were stout again. DeFino made three saves, as she and the Lady Jaspers clamped down and protected Manhattan's lead in the second half. The Lady Jaspers held a 12-10 edge in shots, including two each coming from senior
Jess Garcia and freshmen
Alexandra Konneker.
The game was played on the campus of LaSalle University, due to the field conditions at Temple being unsuitable for play. The Lady Jaspers will look to extend their record winning streak to seven on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. as they return to the same field and take on LaSalle.
