Ossining, N.Y. (September 12, 2006)-
Sean Oroho took home medalist honors to lead Manhattan to the team championship at the Yeshiva University Invitational, held at 6,935 yard, par-71 Hudson Hills Golf Course. The team championship was the first for the Jaspers since the linksmen won the St. Thomas Aquinas Invitational in October of 2001, and just the second in the history of the program.
Playing on a challenging course (slope rating of 129) under less than ideal conditions, Oroho carded a five-over-par round of 76 to post the low round of the day. He was closely followed by
James Marchewka, who placed second overall with a score of 79.
Other finishers for Manhattan were
Chris Vieau (84, Tied-Fifth), Nicholas LaBanca (87, Seventh), and
Steven Rentz (91, Tied-12th).
The Jaspers' team total of 326 easily outdistanced runner-up Stevens Tech, who compiled a team score of 346. Host Yeshiva was third (358), followed by St. Joseph's College (365), and Centenary College (410).
The team returns to action on Friday, September 15, when the Jaspers participate in the St. Joseph's Skyline Classic, to be held at Pine Ridge GC in Coram, N.Y. The event is slated to begin at 12 noon.
