Riverdale, N.Y. (August 30, 2006)-The last thing Manhattan Volleyball's struggling offense wanted to see on Wednesday night was Eastern Washington's block. The Eastern Washington Eagles out blocked the Lady Jaspers by a five-to-one margin en route to a 3-0 (30-19, 30-23, 30-21) non-conference victory at Draddy Gym.

In all, EWU successfully blocked 20 Manhattan attacks with seven of the blocks coming from senior middle Raelynn Chaffee, who single-handedly recorded more blocks than the entire Manhattan team.

The Lady Jaspers also hurt themselves in the service game, committing seven service errors compared to one ace, which came from sophomore rightside hitter Andrea Reiff.

Seeing time as the libero, Manhattan senior co-captain Meghan Plunkett dug up a match-high 11 attacks. One can usually spot the 6-1 senior playing on the opposite side, but Plunkett has been a defensive specialist of late as head coach Ray Green has attempted to ease her back into the rotation after an injury sidelined her for a good portion of the summer.

After playing its first four matches of the season within the confines of Draddy Gym, Manhattan will travel down to the nation's capitol this upcoming weekend for a tournament at American University. In search of their first win of the young season, the Lady Jaspers will face the New Jersey Institute of Technology on September 1, and then, square off against Howard University and host American the following day.
