GOLF FINISHES STRONG AT MAAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

Lake Buena Vista, Fla. (April 30, 2006)- The Jasper linksmen closed out the 2006 MAAC Golf Championships in fine fashion, as all four Manhattan scorers carded final rounds of under 80, for a Round 3 team score of 310, as the Jaspers placed eighth at the MAAC Championships, held at the 6,852 yard, par-72 Magnolia Golf Course at Walt Disney World.

In the final round, James Marchewka (77), George Calvi (75), Sean Oroho (79), and Chris Vieau (79) all posted rounds under 80, the first time since the 2002 MAAC Championships that Manhattan had four players in the 70's in one round. The Jaspers' Round 3 team total of 310 was their best team score in a single round since the 2003 MAAC Championships.

Marchewka (80-85-77-242) finished in a tie for 25th, followed by Calvi's (86-82-75-243) tied for 27th finish, Oroho's (81-84-79-244) tied for 30th finish, Vieau's (83-83-79-245) tied for 34th finish. Adam Minbiole (90-91-84-265) also placed for Manhattan, finishing 43rd.

Over the three days, Manhattan's team total of 974 (330-334-310) placed the team well ahead of Saint Peter's, and just nine strokes behind Fairfield.

Siena took home the team title with a team score of 908, while Iona's Kyle Underwood claimed medalist honors after finishing the three day event with a one-under-par total of 215 (72-72-71).
