CLICK HERE FOR FULL RESULTSMyrtle Beach, S.C. (March 15, 2006)--Manhattan Men's Golf competed at Fairfield's annual Spring Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C. on March 13 and 14. The Jasper Linksmen finished ninth out of a competitive ten-team field with a two-round team score of 679.
George Calvi posted the best individual finish of any Jasper by shooting an 83 on day one at Crown Park Golf Course and a 79 for his second round at Black Bear Golf Course.
James Marchewka was Manhattan's second-best golfer during the tournament, but unlike Calvi, his best day was the opening day of the tournament. Marchewka finished with an 82 on day one and took 85 strokes to complete his second round.
The other two Manhattan finishers were
Chris Vieau and
Sean Oroho, who were two strokes apart. Vieau proved to be the 49th best golfer in the field after rebounding from a tough day one. Vieu trimmed 14 strokes off of his first round performance by shooting an 80 on day two. Oroho shot an 88 on both days.
The individual title went to Raul Cortes of Jackson State who posted a two-round score of 149. With the help of Cortes' performance, Jackson State captured the team championship as well with a score of 617. Some of the local finishers were LIU in second (634), Fairfield in third (639), and Hofstra in seventh (663).
