Coral Gables, Fla. (March 15, 2006)- Manhattan starter Chris Cody could not replicate his mastery of a ranked opponent like he did at Tulane, as the Jaspers were defeated by #19 Miami, 12-2, tonight at Mark Light Field.

After two scoreless innings, the Hurricane's touched up Cody for three runs on three hits, also taking advantage of a Manhattan error.

The Jaspers responded in the top of the fourth, an Nick Derba was hit by a pitch, advanced to second on a single by John Fitzpatrick, and came around to score on a single by Miami native Mike Garcia.

Miami would add three more in the fifth, and four more in the sixth to open up a big lead before the Jaspers were able to push across another run in the seventh when Dom Lombardi scored on a throwing error by the Hurricane catcher.

The Hurricanes scored twice in the eigth to provide the final margin.

Garcia went 2-4 with an RBI to pace the Manhattan attack.

Cody went the first 5.1 innings, allowing six earned runs while striking out two. Mike Gazzola replaced Cody, allowing one earned run over 1.2 innings of work. Brian Fulcher closed things out in the eighth, allowing two runs.
