CROSS COUNTRY COMPETES AT PRESTIGIOUS MEET OF CHAMPIONS WITH TYLER RAYMOND FINISHING 14TH OVERALL

Riverdale, N.Y. (September 24, 2005)--Senior Tyler Raymond was Manhattan Cross Country's top finisher on Saturday in the Br. John Doyle Meet of Champions hosted at Van Cortland Park. Raymond earned a 14th place finish overall on the men's side by completing the 8K race in 25:12.10. As a team, the Manhattan men were 15th out of 25 schools with a score of 426 in the prestigious meet. Senior Marissa Olivieri paced the Lady Jaspers in the 6K run, as her time of 23:48.90 landed her a 75th-place finish. The Lady Jaspers' team score of 517 placed them 20th out of 24 colleges on the leaderboard.

Gathering at Van Cortland Park for the meet were some of the nation's elite programs, as nationally-ranked University of Arkansas and Iona College held the top two team spots on the men's side with scores of 20 and 77, respectively. Cornell University claimed the women's team title with a score of 67, with Iona finishing second with 115 points.

Iona senior Richard Kiplagat ran a 23:54.40 to take the men's individual crown, while Arkansas representatives held the next five spots. Sophomore Lindsey Scherf of Harvard University completed the race in 21:19.30 to earn the women's individual title.

Manhattan junior Mike Foley was the Jaspers' second individual finisher in the 86th spot with a time of 27:05.30. Other scorers in the men's race for Manhattan were, in order, sophomore Joe McElhoney (27:22.8), sophomore Tom Murphy (27:25.80), junior Chris Breslin (27:38.40), junior Anthony Vernaci (27:59.20), and senior Josh Conklin (28:15.70). Freshman Sarah Rogers, who was the first of three freshmen scorers for the Lady J's, finished 92nd overall by running a 24:10.70. Following Rogers on the score sheet for the Lady Jaspers were senior Caryn Capalbo (24:35.10), sophomore Eryka Perreault (24:59.60), freshman Melissa Trauscht (25:01.70), senior Nicholle Davis (25:11.10), freshman Kathleen Bayer (25:15.40).

Also completing the race for the Jasper men were freshman John Mueller (28:53.60) and sophomore Corey Robson (29:13.60). Senior Ginine Lucarello (25:20.20) and freshman Angela Bernarde (25:40.70) finished for Manhattan in the women's competition.

Manhattan Cross Country is idle until October 7 when they compete in the Metropolitan Championships at Van Cortland Park. The meet begins at 1:00 p.m.
