Providence, R.I. (September 23, 2005)--Powered by senior outside hitter Megan O'Dorisio's first double-double of the season, Manhattan Volleyball swept past Stony Brook University in three games (30-26, 30-22, 30-16) Friday afternoon at the Brown Invitational in Providence, R.I.
O'Dorisio posted 14 kills and a season-high 12 digs, as the Lady Jaspers rebounded from their loss to No. 18 Santa Clara University earlier today. Fellow senior Maggie Pfeifer followed up her 13-kill effort against Santa Clara with a 14-kill performance in the win over Stony Brook. Led by the two seniors, the Manhattan attack was dominant throughout the match, significantly outhitting the Seawolves in each of the three games.
Trailing 15-10 in game one, the Lady Jaspers caught fire as they rattled off nine straight points to take a four-point advantage. During the 9-0 run, Pfeifer finished off three passes from senior setter Lori Bambauer, and sophomore Ashley Watson notched two kills. The Lady J's came out scalding hot in game two, as senior libero Ashley Davis held serve for the first seven points of the frame. After falling behind 2-0 on kills by SBU's Morgan Sweany in game three, Manhattan scored another seven straight points en route to the 14-point win.
For the first time this season, the Lady Jaspers had three players record double-digit digs. In addition to O'Dorisio's 12, Manhattan received 11 digs apiece from Davis and freshman Andrea Reiff. The 11 digs for Reiff marked the freshman's career-high.
The three-game sweep cooled down the streaking Seawolves, who entered the match as winners of six out of their last seven.
The Lady Jaspers try for their third victory in four matches tomorrow afternoon, as they close out play at the Brown Invitational against host Brown University at 1:00 p.m.
