New Britain, Conn. (September 20, 2005)- Manhattan dropped a 6-1 decision to the Central Connecticut Blue Devils this afternoon. Joe Pumo scored his first goal of the season for the Jaspers, while David Mires stopped 14 shots for Manhattan. The Jaspers fall to 0-7-0 on the season.
After CCSU scored two goals over the first 15 minutes, Manhattan responded with a goal of its own to cut the deficit in half. Mike Barbuto's shot was stopped by the Blue Devil keeper, but he was unable to hang on, and Pumo was able to pounce on the rebound to make the score 2-1 at the 20:13 mark.
Unfortunately, the Jaspers could not capitalize on the momentum, as the Blue Devils scored twice more before the break.
CCSU added two more goals over the first 15 minutes of the second half to provide the final margin.
Mires made a career-high 14 saves, including 10 in the second half. John Ciano made four saves and allowed the Manhattan goal over 61:33, while Chris Chiakpo went the final 28:27, making two saves.
CCSU outshot the Jaspers by a 31-13 count, with Adam Kiley, Tommy Lenhardt, Justin Schultz, and Barbuto each tallying two shots.
Manhattan gets back in action on Saturday, September 24, when the Jaspers travel to Hamden, Conn. to battle the Quinnipiac Bobcats at 1:00 p.m.
