Riverdale, N.Y. (September 10, 2005)--Senior middle hitter Maggie Pfeifer pounded out 16 kills, but Manhattan Volleyball fell to the University of Connecticut three games to none (18-30, 22-30, 22-30) in their final match of the Toyota UConn Classic in Storrs, Conn.
Pfeifer, who won MAAC Offensive Player of the Week honors for her efforts last weekend, followed up a 13-kill performance earlier today against Brown by hitting .389 for the UConn match.
Fellow Lady Jasper senior Megan O'Dorisio, who earned a spot on the Toyota All-Tournament team, added nine kills and eight digs, but Manhattan (2-4, 0-0 MAAC) was unable to fend off UConn's attack led by senior Heather Ashley's 16 kills. The Huskies (4-2, 0-0 Big East) hit .349 as a team during the match.
On defensive side, Manhattan was led by senior Ashley Davis and sophomore Ashley Watson who recorded 14 digs and 11 digs respectively.
Manhattan will return to the court next weekend in Chicago, Ill., as they take part in the Loyola-Chicago Classic on September 16 and 17. On day one, the Lady Jaspers square off against host Loyola-Chicago at 8:30 p.m. The Lady
Jaspers will then play a doubleheader on September 17, as they take on Tulsa at 3:30 p.m. and Columbia at 6:00 p.m.
