Riverdale, NY (April 7, 2005)- The Lady Jaspers captured their first win of the season today at Gaelic Park beating Central Connecticut 14-3. Senior Victoria Carman (Freeport, NY) and junior Molly Pheterson (Rochester, NY) led the team scoring three goals and an assist. The Jaspers improve to a 1-5-0 overall record while the Blue Devils drop to 2-8-0 record.
Pheterson opened the game scoring with a pass from senior Jamie Carter (Williston Park, NY) with 39 seconds off the clock giving the Lady J's a 1-0 lead. Manhattan went on a nine goal scoring streak before the Blue Devil's sophomore Abby Hayes scored off a free position shot with :15 seconds left in the first half. At the half the Lady J's led 10-1.
In the second half Carter earned her third assist of the game when she found sophomore Jenny Carman (Freeport, NY). The goal increased Manhattan's lead to 10. After Pheterson's second goal CCSU's freshman Abby Capobianco scored an unassisted goal with 21:44 remaining in regulation. The final Lady Jasper goal came at the 14:43 mark by Victoria Carman. Capobianco ended the scoring today with 7:51 left to play in the second half off a free position shot.
Sophomore Ashley Devins (Manhasset, NY) earned 12 saves while Blue Devil Amanda Zabel finished with 13 and Shayna Golet earned seven in the 14:43 she competed for CCSU.
The Lady J's play again on Saturday, April 9 when they travel to Buffalo, NY to play Niagara University at 1:00 p.m.
