Fairfield, CT (April 23, 2005)- Molly Pheterson scored three goals to lead Manhattan to an 11-10 MAAC win over Fairfield this afternoon at Alumni Field on the Stags' campus. Mary Dudek chipped in with two tallies, including what proved to be the game winner with 3:08 remaining in the game as the Lady Jaspers improve to 6-7, 5-1 in MAAC play.
Fairfield scored five of the first seven goals of the game to take a 5-2 lead with 10:49 left in the first half. The Lady Jaspers then reeled off three straight markers to even the score at 5-5 with 1:50 remaining before the half. Fairfield responded with two goals before halftime to go into the break with a 7-5 lead.
After the Stags scored just 16 seconds into the second half to open up an 8-5 lead, Manhattan took over the game, scoring six of the next seven goals, including a run of four straight, culminating with Dudek's final minutes tally, to take an 11-9 lead with 3:08 remaining. Fairfield would rally for a goal with 2:17 remaining to pull within one, but Manhattan's defense stiffened once more, not allowing the Stags to score the equalizer.
Ashley Devins tallied five saves for Manhattan between the pipes.
The Lady Jaspers conclude the regular season, and can clinch at least a share of MAAC Regular Season and the #1 seed in the MAAC Tournament, Sunday at 10:00 a.m., when Manhattan will host Marist at Gaelic Park. The Lady Jasper Women's Lacrosse senior class will be honored before the game.
