Bridgeport, CT (April 19, 2005)- Matt Rizzotti went 4-4 with three RBI and John Fitzpatrick went 2-2, with two RBI as the Jaspers pounded out 12 hits on their way to an 11-3 win over Sacred Heart today at Bluefish Stadium. Jesse Darcy gave just a single run on two hits over five innings for his second win of the season.
The Jaspers got on the scoreboard first, as Rizzotti led off the second inning with a double, advanced to third on a passed ball, and came home on a wild pitch. Sacred Heart evened the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the frame on an RBI single.
Manhattan blew the game open with a five run top of the third. Eric Nieto, Gary Diaz, and Nick Derba began the inning with back-to-back-to-back singles, allowing Nieto to scamper home with the go-ahead run. Rizzotti followed with a two-RBI double, clearing the bases, before being driven home by a John Fitzpatrick RBI single. Fitzpatrick came around to score on a SHU error to make the score 6-1 Manhattan.
The Pioneers scored one before Derba and Fitzpatrick tallied RBIs in the seventh and Rizzotti, Pat Reynolds, and Marc Giordano each added an RBI in the ninth before Sacred Heart plated one run in the ninth to provide the final margin. The RBI single was the first collegiate hit for Reynolds.
