MANHATTAN CAPTURES 21-7 WIN OVER SIENA

Riverdale, NY (April 17, 2005)- The Manhattan women's lacrosse team captured a 21-7 win against the Siena Saints this afternoon at Gaelic Park. Senior Victoria Carman (Freeport, NY) led the team with six points scoring five goals and tallying one assist. The Lady J's improve to 5-6 overall and 4-1 in the MAAC conference, while Siena falls to 7-6 overall and 4-1 in MAAC play.

Victoria Carman scored the first of her five goals 3:11 into the game but Manhattan did not hold onto the lead for long as Siena's Amy Schoonmaker tied the game :14 seconds later, 1-1. Three minutes later sophomore Lauren Civardi (Brightwaters, NY) started the Lady Jasper's five goal run off an assist from junior Molly Pheterson (Rochester, NY). The Saint's sophomore Michelle Eide ended the Jasper rally after she received a pass in the arc from senior Joan Paul, 6-2. Senior Mary Dudek (Pearl River, NY) answered back under a minute later lifting Manhattan back to a five goal lead with 12:34 left to play in the half.

The Saints scored one more time at the 8:06 mark before Manhattan went on another rally taking a nine goal lead, 12-3. Siena ended the half with a goal from sophomore Christina Pampalone with :36 seconds remaining. At halftime the Jaspers led, 12-4.

The second half was a closer match-up but the Siena Saints could not score more then three goals. The Lady Jaspers goalkeeper sophomore Ashley Devins (Manhassett, NY) tallied eleven saves. The Jaspers offense also did not let up on attack scoring nine goals in the second half.

Manhattan's sophomore Panagioata Karellas (West Hempstead, NY) scored her first goal of her career as a Lady Jasper. This is the fourth game in a row that Pheterson has scored more then three goals in a game. Four out of the three games she has tallied four goals.

Siena's top scorer today was Pampalone scoring three goals and tallying an assist. Schoonmaker finished the game with two goals and Eide finished with one goal and an assist for three points.

The Lady J's play again on Wednesday, April 20 at 4:00 p.m. when the host Drexel at Gaelic Park.
