Riverdale, NY (April 16, 2005)- The women's lacrosse team fell to the Le Moyne Dolphins this afternoon at Gaelic Park 11-8. Junior Molly Pheterson (Rochester, NY) scored a team-high three goals while senior Mary Dudek tallied a game-high three assists. The Lady J's fall to a 4-6 overall record and drop to 3-1 in MAAC play.
Dudek scored her only goal of the game 5:53 into the first half giving Manhattan a 1-0 lead. Le Moyne's Elizabeth Hewitt scored under a minute later tying the game at one. The Dolphins scored two goals within 30 seconds of one another at the 17 minute mark giving the Dolphins a two goal lead.
With 14:29 remaining in the half junior Erin Warren found Pheterson in the arc cutting Le Moyne's lead back to one. Under two minutes later, Whitney Vecchio of Le Moyne scored an unassisted goal lifting the Dolphins to a 4-2 lead. Senior Victoria Carman began a Jasper three-goal rally at the 11:44 mark. The Dolphins' Elizabeth Hewitt ended the rally after a free position goal with 2:50 left in the half, 5-5.
Sophomore Jenny Carman found the back of the net at the 28:48 mark lifting Manhattan by one again. Just 20 seconds later, Vecchio answered back, tying the game 6-6. Le Moyne's Kylie Rosette scored the game winner with nine seconds left to play in the first half giving Le Moyne a 7-6 lead.
Manhattan never regained the lead in the second half. Le Moyne came out scoring the first goal with 2:54 off the clock, 8-6. Dudek tallied her second assist of the game when she found Pheterson decreasing the Dolphins lead by one. That was the closest the Jaspers came to taking the lead. Le Moyne went on a three goal rally taking a four goal lead with 7:07 left to play in regulation. Manhattan's freshman Alicia Psillos looked to start a Jasper rally with 3:10 remaining but the Lady J's fell short. The final score of the game was 11-8.
Sophomore Ashley Devins finished the game with 13 saves for the Lady Jaspers while the Dolphins' Samantha Falcone recorded eight stops.
Manhattan hosts the Siena Saints tomorrow Sunday, April 17 at Gaelic Park at 10:00 a.m.
