Jason Wingate and
Jeff Xavier each posted career-highs in points as #6 Manhattan cruised to an 88-67 win over #9 Loyola in the First Round of the MAAC Tournament tonight at the HSBC Arena in Buffalo, NY.
Manhattan dominated from the start, scoring the first 10 points of the game, not allowing a Loyola point over the first 6:18 of the game. The Greyhound's Sean Corrigan scored 10 of his team's 17 first half points as Manhattan went into the break with a 45-17 lead.
In the second half, Manhattan led by as many as 33 after an
Arturo Dubois layup made the score 52-19, with 18:36 left in the game. The Jaspers never let the lead dip below 19 on the way to the win.
Xavier led all scorers with a career-high 20 points, adding six rebounds. Wingate tallied a career-high 19 points, while
Peter Mulligan added 16 points, six assists, and five boards, and Dubois chipped in with 13 points and a career-high five blocks.
The Jaspers advance to the MAAC Quarterfinals and will play #3 Fairfield at 9:30 p.m. on Friday, March 5.
