Miami, FL (March 19, 2005)- FIU scored five runs over the first two innings on the way to an 8-2 win over Manhattan at University Field. John Fitzpatrick went 2-4 with an RBI to pace the Jaspers.
The Jaspers got on the board first, plating a run in the top of the first after Dom Lombardi walked, went to second on a error on a pickoff attempt, and came around to score on a John Fitzpatrick single.
FIU plated three in the bottom of the first to take a 3-1 lead before Nick Derba led off the top of the second with a homer to bring the Jaspers to within one, 3-2.
Unfortunately, Manhattan would not score again and FIU would score two in the second, one in the fifth, and two more in the eighth on the way to a split of the two game series and an 8-2 win.
Josh Santerre went the first 6.1 innings, striking out four before giving way to Kyle Wirtz, who went the final 1.2 innings.
