Riverdale, NY (February 20, 2005)- Marist used a 14-2 run early in the second half to pull away from Manhattan and capture a 66-52 decision this afternoon at Draddy Gym. Freshman
Caitlin Flood led Manhattan with her first career double-double, totaling 16 points and 12 rebounds, while senior
Serra Sangar added 12 points on Senior Day. Kristin Keller led all scorers with 22 for Marist while Fifi Camara finished with 20.
The Red Foxes (19-6, 13-3 MAAC) jumped out to a 14-3 lead to open the game, paced by three treys at the outset. Manhattan (10-15, 6-10 MAAC) rallied, however, and responded with an 11-2 spurt of its own to get within two points (16-14) at the 8:46 mark. The teams exchanged baskets the rest of the way, and Marist went into intermission with a 30-27 advantage. Flood had 10 of her 16 points in the first half, while Camara had 12 of her 20 in the half.
Freshman
Aubrie Dellinger hit a jumper four minutes into the second half that cut the Marist lead to four (35-31) at the 15:47 mark. From there, Marist went on its critical 14-2 run, including nine points from Keller during that stretch. Marist took its largest lead of the game (60-42) at the 5:27 mark on a layup from Stephanie Youdath. Manhattan would get no closer than 13 points the rest of the way, as Marist sealed its 13th straight victory.
Despite outrebounding Marist 36-34, including 17-11 on the offensive glass, the Lady Jaspers shot 33.3% from the field and 33.3% from long range. Marist hit on 48% for the game, including 56% in the second half.
Manhattan will return to action on Friday February 25, in Buffalo, NY, when the team will take on Canisius at 7:00 p.m. The Lady Jaspers will close out the regular season on Sunday, February 27, at Niagara at 2:00 p.m.
