Baltimore, MD (February 18, 2005)- Loyola held Manhattan to 34% shooting from the field and created 19 Lady Jasper turnovers on its way to a 56-43 victory tonight at Reitz Arena. Katie Scherle had 13 points to lead a balanced Loyola attack, while freshman
Joann Nwafili scored 13 points to lead Manhattan.
After Manhattan (10-14, 6-9 MAAC) took a 17-13 lead midway through the first half on a jumper from senior
Serra Sangar, Loyola went on a 12-5 run to end the first half, and went into intermission with a 25-22 lead. Jackie Valderas had nine points in the half to pace Loyola, while Nwafili hit 2-2 from the floor for seven points in the opening stanza.
Loyola (8-16, 7-8 MAAC) had its lead cut to 25-24 on a basket by
Michelle Bernal-Silva to begin the second half, but Loyola responded with a 12-2 run over the next 7:30 to open up a 37-26 lead, its largest of the game up to that point. After the teams exchanged baskets, the Greyhounds opened up a 14-point lead, 46-32, at the 8:13 mark, behind five straight points from Lauren Troupe. Loyola held Manhattan at bay from there, as Manhattan would only get within 11 points down the stretch.
Sangar had 12 points and five rebounds for Manhattan, while Valderas also finished with 12 points and five rebounds for Loyola.
The Lady Jaspers will return to action on Sunday, February 20, when they will host Marist in the final home game of the season. Seniors

Serra Sangar will be honored on Senior Day in a brief ceremony prior to tip-off, slated to begin at 2:00 p.m.
