MEN'S BASKETBALL RUNS PAST RIDER, 90-73

Riverdale, NY (February 11, 2005)- Six Manhattan players scored in double figures as the Jaspers used a big second half to avenge a loss at Rider earlier in the year, defeating the MAAC leading Broncs, 90-73, tonight at Draddy Gym. Peter Mulligan and CJ Anderson, who sat out the last Rider game, combined to score 40 points as Manhattan improves to 11-11, 6-8 in MAAC play.

Rider tallied five of the game's first seven points to take an early, 5-2 lead before the Jaspers used a 20-7 run over the next 9:20 to take a 10 point lead, 22-12, with 8:00 to play before the break. The Broncs responded with a 15-5 run of their own to knot the score at 27 with 4:10 remaining in the first half. After Rider's Robert Taylor made one of two free throws to give the Broncs a one point lead, 32-31, with 2:02 before halftime, Manhattan score the final four points of the half to go into the break with a 35-32 lead.

After Anderson opened up the second half with a layup to extend the Jaspers' lead to five, 37-32, Rider scored the next four points to pull within one, 37-36, with 18:50 to play. Manhattan responded with a 10-1 run, taking a 10 point lead, 47-37, on an Arturo Dubois free throw with 15:53 remaining. The Jaspers extended the run to 32-11, taking a 22 point lead, their largest of the night, with 9:44 remaining on a Kenny Minor three pointer. Rider would not go away, and used a 21-7 run to cut the lead to eight points, 76-68, with 4:24 left in the game, capped by a Jerry Johnson three pointer, but would get no closer, as Manhattan converted 10-10 from the charity stripe down the stretch to emerge with the 90-73 win.

Mulligan paced the Jaspers with a team-high 21 points and a game-high nine rebounds, as Manhattan won the battle of the boards, 34-27. Anderson added 19 points, four assists, and two blocks, while Dubois chipped in with 13 points, three assists, three blocks, and two steals, while committing zero turnovers. Kenny Minor (12 points, four assists, two steals), Jason Wingate (11 points, three assists, two steals), and Jeff Xavier (11 points) also tallied double figure nights.

Jerry Johnson led all scorers with a game-high 23 points to pace Rider.

Manhattan continues a three game home stand on Sunday, February 13, when the Jaspers host Marist at 2:00 p.m. at Draddy Gym in a game that will be televised on RNN.
