Arturo Dubois led three Jaspers in double figures as Manhattan posted an 84-35 win over McGill University in a men's basketball exhibition game played at Draddy Gym on the Manhattan campus. Eight of the 11 Jaspers that saw action reached double digits in minutes played.
Manhattan scored the game's first four points, but the Redmen used a 7-2 run to take their only lead of the game, 7-6, with 15:53 left in the opening stanza. The Jaspers then turned up the pressure, outscoring McGill 24-2 over the next 8:19 to take a 30-9 lead with 7:34 remaining in the first half. The Jaspers stretched the lead to 24 on two
Jason Wingate free throws just before halftime to take a 42-18 lead into the break.
Manhattan used its entire bench over the second 20 minutes, building the lead to as many as 53, 79-26, with 5:00 left after two
Mike Konovelchick free throws on the way to the 49 point win.
Dubois led all scorers with 18 points, adding a team-high seven rebounds. Joining Dubois in double figures were Wingate, who tallied 16 points, a game-high four assists, and four steals, and
Jeff Xavier, who tallied 11 points to go along with four steals.
Olivier Lamoureaux paced McGill with nine points, while Yannick Chouinard scored seven points and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds.
Manhattan forced 36 Redmen turnovers, tallying 22 steals, while the Jaspers posted just 12 turnovers.
Manhattan opens the regular season on Monday, November 14, taking on Big East member Seton Hall at the Continental Airlines Arena in an opening round game of the Preseason NIT. The game is slated to tip-off at 7:00 p.m.
