Riverdale, N.Y. (November 5, 2005)--Despite 14 kills apiece from seniors Megan O'Dorisio and Maggie Pfeifer, Manhattan Volleyball fell to MAAC rival Fairfield University in three games at Draddy Gym on Saturday afternoon. The loss drops Manhattan to 3-3 in MAAC play, while Fairfield improves to 7-1 in the conference.
O'Dorisio, who was second in the MAAC in kills per game entering today's contest, posted the 14th double-double of her senior campaign, as she notched 11 digs to go with the 14 kills.
Pfeifer, who was a Pre-Season All-MAAC selection, hit a team-best .406 on the afternoon.
Despite O'Dorisio and Pfeifer continuing to put up impressive numbers, Manhattan could not overcome the balanced Fairfield attack. The Stags did not have a single player record double-digit kills, but three Fairfield players hit at least .400. Fairfield finished with a .279 team hitting percentage compared to the Lady Jaspers' .158 percentage.
Manhattan also did not help itself in the service game, as the Lady J's committed 10 service errors, while Fairfield only hade five mishaps.
Manhattan did out-dig Fairfield over the course of the match with senior libero Ashley Davis leading all players with 24 digs. Sophomore Ashley Watson added another 14 digs for the Lady Jaspers.
The loss further tightens up the race for the final two MAAC Tournament berths. With Fairfield and Iona sitting atop the standings with only one loss apiece, Manhattan and three other teams all sit within a half game of each other in the race to qualify for the four-team tournament.
Davis, O'Dorisio, Pfeifer and senior setter Lori Bambauer try to improve the Lady Jaspers' chances of grabbing one of the final two spots, as the quartet plays the final home match of their Manhattan careers tomorrow afternoon against Iona. The match begins at 2:00 p.m., and there will be a senior ceremony prior to the start.
