Hackensack, N.J. (October 7, 2005)--Seniors Megan O'Dorisio and Maggie Pfeifer combined for 47 kills on Friday night, but it was not enough, as Manhattan Volleyball fell to Fairleigh Dickinson University in four games (22-30, 27-30, 31-29, 29-31) in the opening match of the FDU Invitational in Hackensack, N.J. The loss stops the Lady Jaspers' win streak at four matches.
Four Lady Jaspers finished with at least 11 digs, but Manhattan could not outlast FDU, who countered with four players with double-digit kills, over four highly-contested games. One of the Lady J's with double-digit digs was O'Dorisio, who finished 27 kills and 19 digs for her sixth double-double of the season. Sophomore Ashley Watson led Manhattan defensively with a team-high 24 digs.
Senior middle hitter Maggie Pfeifer, who is the reigning MAAC Offensive Player of the Week, continued her solid play by pounding out 20 kills to go with eight digs and two blocks for Manhattan.
FDU's Elena Schmidt answered O'Dorisio's double-double with one of her own as the sophomore recorded 17 kills and 17 digs. Karolina Kawolski led the Knights with a match-best 28 digs.
After falling for the first time in five matches, Manhattan Volleyball has the opportunity to start up a new winning streak as they continue play at the FDU Invitational tomorrow afternoon. The Lady Jaspers square off against Rider University at 12:00 p.m. and Wagner College at 2:00 p.m.
