Riverdale, N.Y. (October 7, 2005)--The Manhattan women and men both placed fifth with scores of 154 at the annual Metropolitan Cross Country Championship on Friday afternoon at Van Cortlandt Park. Senior Marissa Olivieri was the Lady Jaspers top finisher at 21st overall in the nine-school women's field with a time of 20:05, while senior Tyler Raymond led Manhattan on the men's side, finishing third overall in the ten-school field with a time of 26:19.

Winning both the women's and men's team title with scores of 28 and 45 respectively was Columbia University. Allison Caruana of Rutgers University captured the individual women's crown with an 18:48, while Marist College's David Raucci finished at the top of the men's score sheet with a time of 25:59.

Following Olivieri for the Lady Jaspers, who placed six runners in the top 50, were scorers senior Caryn Capalbo (20:25), freshman Melissa Trauscht (20:38), freshman Angela Bernarde (20:52), freshman Kathleen Bayer (20:59), senior Nicholle Davis (21:13), and freshman Jessica Hamm (22:04). Also finishing the 5K race for the Lady J's were freshman Ellen Dobbin (22:17), senior Ginine Lucarello (22:23), freshman Julie Carr (22:54), freshman Lauren Natoli (22:58), sophomore Erin Gregorek (22:58), sophomore Alanna McVey (23:49), and freshman Katie Horton (23:56).

In addition to Raymond, Mike Foley (27:04), junior Chris Breslin (28:01), junior Anthony Vernaci (28:06), sophomore Joe McElhoney (28:08), sophomore Tom Murphy (28:46), and freshman John Mueller (29:06) all scored for Manhattan. Other Jasper finishers were senior Josh Conklin (29:27), sophomore Corey Robson (29:41), junior Brendan Smith (29:42), senior Kerry O'Brien (30:18), freshman Giuseppe Salamone (31:05), junior Kevin Agnese (31:44), and sophomore Padraic Murray (32:39).

Both Cross Country squads return to the course on October 18, as they participate in the Manhattan/Iona Invitational at Van Cortlandt Park.
